Here are some photos of an exemplary bulletin board exhibiting the work of a grade 6 self-contained class in a community school.
Topic: Area & Circumference
Essential Question: How/Why are shapes essential to our everyday lives?
Project: "Now That's a Pizza!" Students were to determine the area and circumference of various sizes of pizzas, based on a pre-assigned math word problem. Math work was graded using a rubric.
Differentiation During Instruction: Small groups based on learning level, Station teaching, Tiered learning
Differentiation Across Content Areas: Students researched and wrote about the origins of pizza (ELA, Social Studies)
Students researched local pizza parlor ads and then designed and decorated their own pizzas, pizza boxes and logo for their own pizza parlor.
